Biography: Pianist Min Kwon received a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music, MM and DMA from The Juilliard School, and pursued post-doctoral studies at Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Her activities as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher have taken her to 45 countries on five continents and all 50 States in the US. She has appeared at festivals in Aspen, Ravinia, Cape & Islands, Caramoor, Colmar (France), Freiburg (Germany), Salzburg (Austria), Kuhmo (Finland), and Prague (Czech Republic). Since her North American debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1987, Min Kwon appeared as a soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall under Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and the Aspen Festival Orchestra under James Conlon, as well as with symphony orchestras of North Carolina, Fort Worth, Atlanta, New Jersey, and Chicago, among others. Recent and upcoming highlights include solo appearances with the Bacau Philharmonic in Italy, solo and chamber recitals in Norway, Finland, Estonia, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and South Africa. She has also toured extensively with the Orquesta Estaudo de Mexico, Orquesta Sinfornica Venezuela, and with all of the major orchestras in Korea: KBS Orchestra on a tour of Korea, Puchon Philharmonic at the Seoul Arts Center, Korean Symphony, Daejun and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestras. Grand Prize winner of KBS Seoul Emerging Artists Award in 1995, Kwon received Juilliard’s coveted Gina Bachauer International Award and has captured more than a dozen top prizes from the competitions in the US, Italy, Scotland, and Spain. Previously she taught piano minor and chamber music at The Juilliard School. Since 2002, Kwon is on the piano faculty at Rutgers University in New Jersey and during summers has taught at the Ameropa International Festival in Prague, Kuhmo Masters Course in Finland, Han Tong-Il Institute in Korea, and Piano Summer at SUNY New Paltz in the US. Kwon currently serves as an artistic advisor of the Watchung Arts Center in New Jersey and is also in demand as a journalist and adjudicator of competitions.
